About us
Our vision
For responsible business practice to be integrated into the DNA of all City and City-fringe companies to help create prosperous, healthy and sustainable communities.
Our mission
To enable businesses in the City and City fringes to learn from one another how to develop voluntary and socially responsible programmes in the community.
Our organisation
Heart of the City is a registered charity launched in September 2000 by its joint presidents Lord George and The Lord Mayor of the City of London.
Heart of the City is actively supported in the delivery of its free programme by nearly 100 leading Contributor businesses who are highly experienced in the development of CSR programmes in their own businesses.
Heart of the City’s strategic direction and Governance is determined by its Board of Trustees chaired by Sir Gerald Acher. Heart of the City has been housed and funded by the City of London Corporation since its inception. In 2007, Heart of the City received pilot funding from the London Development Agency to roll out the Programme to the City fringes. Due to its success, City Bridge Trust has funded this Programme until 2013. In addition to supporting City businesses, Heart of the City supports businesses in Southwark, Lambeth, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Islington and Camden.
Heart of the City is not a broker. However, after discussing which areas of CSR you are interested in, Heart of the City can put you in touch with a relevant brokering organisation who can give information, guidance and a helping hand to get started.
Heart of the City does not raise funds for or make individual approaches to companies on behalf of charities. It does however use examples of companies working in partnership with charities to highlight mutual benefits and encourage good practice.
